Brass and Bergamot started with my love for Culture, Design and Flavor. Many of the elements and materials I use in my own home, are reminiscent of our family’s heritage.
As a kid growing up in South India, I remember the flicker of brass oil lamps when the power went out, nightly. The home of my childhood was moody — interiors painted in dark colors to make the soot covered walls less noticeable. Flavors of food cooked over open flames lingered through the air, as the monsoon rains brought with it notes of cardamon and lime. Bergamot is a nod to the fragrant scents of the earth after the rains have ended.
The India I grew up in — with all its lush beauty, foreign influences and handmade furniture is still the style I am drawn towards. Although times have since changed, and it’s no longer the country of my childhood — the India that’s dear to my heart is the one that calls to mind memories of a time long ago.
Design for me, has always been multi-sensory. It evokes feelings, emotions and memories. This journey has been a personal one, perfected only by time.
We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
T.S. Eliot
